Session Description / Call for Papers:

Islands around the world are at the frontline of sustainability challenges linked to tourism, including seasonal pressures, limited natural resources, waste accumulation, and increased energy demand. Addressing these challenges requires innovative, circular, and systemic approaches that are adaptable to local conditions and engage communities and visitors in meaningful ways.

We invite contributions that explore solutions for circular economy implementation in island tourism contexts, including but not limited to:

  • Movable or modular systems for waste, water, or energy management
  • Circular models tailored for tourism-intensive island communities
  • Stakeholder engagement and co-creation methods in sustainability planning
  • Digital tools and monitoring systems to support resource efficiency
  • Case studies from islands in any global region
  • Governance, financing, and policy mechanisms enabling circular transitions

We welcome interdisciplinary submissions, including original research, applied case studies, technology demonstrations, and policy analyses that advance circularity and resilience in island tourism.

Keywords: sustainable tourism, circular economy, island resilience, movable infrastructure, stakeholder engagement, decentralized systems, modular technologies, co-creation
