Title of the speech: Quaternary treatments in the upgrading of WWTPs in accordance with the recent UWWTD: micropollutant removal and operation reliability

 

Degree in Chemical Engineering at the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna, Italy, PhD in Environmental and Safety Chemical Engineering. Assistant researcher at the University of Bologna and then at the University of Ferrara (Italy). Associate Professor in Environmental and Sanitary Engineering at the University of Ferrara .
Her main research fields include water and wastewater treatments and options for reuse, occurrence and removal of contaminants of emerging concerns, CECs (mainly pharmaceuticals) from (waste)water, hospital effluent management and treatment, CECs prioritization in reclaimed water reuse projects, environmental risk assessment posed by CEC residues in WWTP effluent, human and environmental risk
assessment in the case of reuse projects, water and sanitation safety plans, quaternary treatments according to the recent UWWTD.
Scientific Responsible of three European projects: H2020-SafewaterAfrica (2016-2019), H2020-MSCA Nowelties (2019-2023) and EraNET-JPI SERPIC (2019-2024). Member of the COST Action Water4Reuse (2024-2028).
Author and co-author of more than 140 peer-reviewed scientific publications and book chapters. 
Consultant (October 2015 -March 2018), for the Italian Parliamentary Committee (Chamber of Deputies and Senate) in the field of illegal activities related to the waste cycle and environmental offences and of the European Commission (2021 -2022) for the revision of the urban wastewater treatment directive.
Editors of three books in Springer and Elsevier on hospital effluent management and treatment, advanced wastewater treatments and reuse and of one manual on wastewater treatment (Hoepli, in Italian). Editor of WST, special issue editor and associate editor in STOTEN, coeditor in chief of ENMM, and editor in TEENGI. Supervisors of more than 1 20 MSc theses in the field of water and wastewater treatments, options of reuse, (environmental) risk assessment.
Supervisors of many assistant researchers and PhD students (2 double degree PhD) covering the fields of CECs occurrence in different water matrices, CECS removal from wastewater by NBS, advanced biological treatments, hospital effluent wastewater and management, technical and economic feasibility studies of reuse projects.
