Bio

Dr. Irene Voukkali is a Lecturer at the Open University of Cyprus in the scientific area of “Green Entrepreneurship and Growth or Cities with Climate Resilience, Urban Metabolism or Bio-economy or European Green Deal”. She has studied Food Science at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and holds two Masters, one in Food Science from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the second one in Environmental Engineering from the University of Cyprus. Furthermore, she holds a PhD in the scientific area of Urban Metabolism from the Open University of Cyprus. She has published 62 scientific papers in international scientific journals, as well as, she has more than 80 presentations in International and National Conferences. In addition, she has written 10 chapters for 7 scientific books, and she is one of the reviewers of more than 5 scientific journals. Her Google Scholar h-index is 26. Her research background includes more than 1 5 years of experience in the following subjects: City metabolism, Key Performance Indicators, Strategic Planning development, Zero Waste approaches, Waste prevention, Sustainable Development programmes, Solid Waste Management, Environmental Impact and Environmental Risk Assessment Analysis, Multi-criteria analysis models. From 2013 until today, she is the Secretary of the Cyprus Environmental Engineers Council. Furthermore, she was appointed by the Presidential Palace of Cyprus Government to design and establish the EMAS (Ecological Management Audit Scheme) in 2017 (Cyprus Presidential House is the first one in the entire EU that has held a validated EMAS certification after verification) and Zero Waste to Landfill on 2024.
