The main reason of the phenomenon seems to be the greenhouse gases, a high quantity of which are due to energy production by using fossil fuel either for domestic use or transportation of the public. Scope of this research is to investigate the correlation of the \u201cecological\u201d opinions, attitudes and practices according to answers for the New Ecological Paradigm (NEP) scale, to the energy consumption habits and practices of Cypriots for domestic use like air-conditioning, cooking and lighting as well as for transportation. A structured questionnaire was used to collect answers by a sample that was selected by implementing the non-random convenient sampling method. A statistical analysis was used in order to investigate if there is a relationship between environmental awareness of Cypriots and their relevant NEP scale score and the energy consumption habits and practices that they follow at their home and when they move either for business or personal reasons.
