Circular business model in the era of fashion waste
Dr Antonis Zorpas is a Chemical Engineer with a PhD in Environmental Management and Engineering. He is actively engaged with several Universities, Research Institutes in Europe. He is an Associate Professor at the Open University of Cyprus (Faculty of Pure and Applied Science and he is the Director of the Lab of Chemical Engineering and Engineering Sustainability). He has more than 500 publications (including editor in scientific books, contribution to books, papers in scientific journals and international conferences, and with h-index>41). In addition, his acting as Editor / Associate Editor on behalf of several Scientific Journals (which belong to Elsevier, Springer, MDPI etc).
For more than 20 years, he was acting as Consulting Engineer on behalf of several industrial activities, government, and local authorities. He was from 2013-2019 the President of the Cyprus Environmental Engineers Council, an active member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Office of the Cyprus Commissioner for the Environment (2013-2019) as well as an Elected Member of the Senate of his University (2018-2022) and President of the Research Committee of his University (2018-2022). He was on the Board of experts on the EURASHE (European Association of Institutions in Higher Education 2016-2019) Committee in Brussels as well as on the consultation forum of the European Defence Agency (2022) and his Scientific Co-operator with EU since 2008.
His research background is in the area of Strategic Panning Development in the Framework of Waste Management, Circular Economy, Waste Valorisation, Waste to energy, End of Waste Criteria, waste minimization, zero waste approach, waste prevention, Food waste, circular cities, Life Cycle Analysis, Gamified Environmental Tools, metaverse on environmental performance etc. He has participated in more than 70 research projects in the last 15 years.
In 2019 has received an honorary distinction for his long-standing contribution to the environmental issues of Cyprus from the President of the Republic of Cyprus. Furthermore, he has been recognized (in 2019, 2020, and 2021) among the world to 2% in the list of scholars in his field in the study “Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators” published by a research team from Stanford University (USA) which include the list of the most influential researchers in the world reflects the excellence of the University’s academics and researchers and the quality of their scientific work. (In 2021 was in position 319 out of 100,000 in the field of Environmental Sciences)
