Workshop: LIFE ClimaMed project
Innovative technologies for climate change mitigation by Mediterranean agricultural sector (ClimaMed)
Friday 1 Sep 2023
Description  /  Programme

LIFE ClimaMed (LIFE17 CCM/GR/000087, https://life-climamed.eu/home) is a demonstration project, which aims to exploit already developed knowledge and combine them into innovative, practical, and applicable technologies that will be demonstrated in 4 European Med countries. Therefore, in accordance with LIFE Regulation, ClimaMed will provide practical and replicable solutions at local/regional/national level and assist governmental as well as local and regional authorities to measure on-site, report and monitor GHGs emissions and SOC stock changes from the agricultural sector, but also from other sectors (e.g., forests, tourism). This will be achieved through the development and demonstration of an innovative LIDAR device for large-scale GHGs measurement (up to 10 Km range) and the development of a methodology for the identification of SOC stock changes which combines the use of multispectral cameras and soil/crops analyses (up to 350-400m). Also, the project will develop GIS-based web decision-making tools for better conformation to the EU climate policy and its future targets.  The LIFE Climamed was developed and implemented by « Benaki Phytopathological Institute» in collaboration with Centro di Sperimentazione e Assistenza Agricola, ENVITECH, Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas, Green Projects SA, Ministry of Rural Development and Food, the Research Committee of the Technical University of Crete, Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche.

A workshop is organized as a side event of the 18th International Conference on Environmental Science and Technology (CEST2023) on 1 September 2023 in Athens (Greece). The agenda includes presentations from the project partners and anyone else is welcome to present research work related to ClimaMed activities.
